A Tribute to Duke Ellington
Fourth Friday Jazz Series welcomes alto saxophonist Christopher Hollyday to the stage. A long impactful presence in the San Diego jazz scene for over twenty years, Hollyday was the youngest person to play the Village Vanguard in New York during the late 89’s. The following year, he toured worldwide with Maynard Ferguson as a soloist. Jazz pianist Ed Kornhauser, who is frequently heard performing with San Diego’s favorite vocalists including Whitney Shay, Leonard Patton, Jonathan Karrant, and Amelia Browning. Rounding out the trio on bass is Mackenzie Leighton, a local favorite sideman who performs multiple shows monthly in San Diego and studied with the highly-respected Bob Magnusson.
The group will perform music by the beloved Duke “The Duke” Ellington, considered by many to be one of America’s most brilliant jazz composers of the 20th century. Some of “The Duke’s” classics include “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” “Mood Indigo,” “Caravan” and “Take the ‘A’ Train.”
Ticket includes show admission, hors d’oeuvres, and free valet.
