Learn the key concepts of Día de los Muertos and the indigenous roots of the tradition with Maestra Grace. Maestra Grace will speak about the meanings of different altars, making appropriate offerings and about the contemporary ways to remember infants, children and adults. Learn how one invites Ancestors and loved ones to visit their home and how we can respectfully say farewell to them.
The observance of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, has its roots in pre-Cuauhtémoc Mexico. While many Mexican and Chicano communities are happy to share the meanings of the altar and the rituals around this holiday, it is also important that one learns how to approach it with reverence, lightness of spirit and as a sacred witnessing of the joys and sorrows of our ancestors. Join us to learn about the soul of this beloved tradition.
