About The Wind and The Breeze: Meet Sam. Sam is the legendary, undisputed, greatest emcee in Rockford, Illinois. Sam is waiting on a bridge for the Independence Day fireworks, but it is February and his closest friends need their hero. Sam is wai...ting on a sign, while his friends and their outsized dreams challenge him to a battle he can't win. Sam is learning that love means letting go and that failure is in the eyes of the beholder. The Wind and the Breeze explores the politics of place, the unspoken expectations of friendship and what happens when we choose to stand our ground on shifting sands.
About the Playwright: Nathan Alan Davis is a playwright from Rockford, Illinois, now living in New York. He is a 2018 Whiting Award winner which recognizes emerging writers based on the criteria of early-career achievement and the promise of superior literary work to come. His plays include Nat Turner in Jerusalem (New York Theatre Workshop; New York Magazine Critic's Pick), Dontrell Who Kissed the Sea (NNPN Rolling World Premiere; Steinberg/ATCA New Play Citation; Los Angeles Times Critic's Choice) and The Wind and the Breeze (Cygnet Theatre; Blue Ink Award; Lorraine Hansberry Award). His work has recently been commissioned and developed by The Public Theater, McCarter Theatre, Arena Stage, Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Lark and the New Harmony Project. Nathan is a Usual Suspect at NYTW and a Lecturer in Theater at Princeton University.
