June 21 is the longest stretch of daylight in the year, making it a perfect fit to celebrate the longest-necked mammal; it’s World Giraffe Day! We'll be celebrating at the Zoo with special activities and presentations Wednesday, June 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Be sure to stop by our giraffe exhibit in Urban Jungle to talk to a giraffe keeper, take a tour behind the scenes of the giraffe barn, feed giraffes, do a fun kids craft, or get your picture taken with our giant giraffe puppets.
San Diego Zoo Global Wildlife Conservancy
giraffe researchers will chat with guests and share their work in Kenya. They’ll explain how and why they track giraffes (and livestock) and monitor trail cameras to learn more these “long necks”. They’ll also tell you about the amazing giraffe guards, or Twiga Walinzi, dedicated Kenyans who actively protect these iconic animals, as well as the other wildlife around them.
